When you start to notice diet culture, you start to see that food and body shaming comments are everywhere, but especially around mealtimes and eating occasions. It could sound like:

  • People commenting on their own body or food stuff - the classic “ugh I’m being so naughty”, “diet starts Monday”
  • People commenting on your kids’ eating: “wow, are you going to let them have that?”, “you’re a bottomless pit”, “do you have hallow legs?”, “he’s so picky!”
  • People commenting on their kids’ eating: “only two sausage rolls”, “no sweets until after dinner”, “you have to take six bites and then you can get down from the table”
  • People commenting on your body/food choices (either in front of or away from kids): “you’ve really beefed up” *pokes belly*

And idk about you, but I’m extra PO’d when the food and body shaming is in the vicinity of my kid.
